Orthopaedic surgeon Dr Chien-Wen Liew grew up and trained predominantly in Adelaide, South Australia. South Australia has multiple public hospitals including the Royal Adelaide Hospital, Flinders Medical Centre, Lyell McEwin Hospital, Modbury Hospital, and the Queen Elizabeth Hospital. In addition to these public hospitals, there are multiple private hospitals, all of which are used to treat orthopaedic patients.
Education and Training
Dr Chien-Wen Liew attended Scotch College Adelaide, and subsequently completed his medical degree at Adelaide University. His orthopaedic training involved moving through almost all public and private hospitals in South Australia as well as the Northern Territory.
After completing his advanced orthopaedic training, he continued his studies overseas with world leaders in minimally invasive surgery on the knee, hip, and shoulder. This included training on the Direct Anterior Approach to the hip for total hip replacements, and Patient Specific Instrumentation for total knee replacements.
Specialisation in Hip and Knee
Dr Chien-Wen Liew has a passion for conditions and operations of the hip and knee, now choosing to focus exclusively on performing total hip replacements and total knee replacements. He is the first official Australian Efort Fellow of Dr Frederic Laude, the pioneer of the direct anterior approach as it is known today using the AMIS technique.
Orthopaedics 360
Dr Chien-Wen Liew joined Adelaide Orthopaedic & Trauma Specialists (AOTS) in 2013, and subsequently formed Orthopaedics 360 — Adelaide's dedicated hip and knee replacement practice. Orthopaedics 360 is based within the Eastwood Private Hospital Precinct and focuses on a truly tailored approach to hip and knee arthritis management, going one step further in patient care and quality outcomes.
